CNA Classes in Ohio

Ohio has more than 400 CNA training programs you can choose from, and over 20,000 of the students take the comprehensive state exam annually. Yet because of the high demand for such professionals not only in Ohio but also in other states, there’s always room for more applicants like you.

CNA Training in Ohio

All CNA programs are assessed and regulated by NATCEP (Nurse Aid Training Competency) through, a subunit of the Department of Health. According to the regulations, an Ohio CNA should accomplish no less than 75 hours of formal training, including classroom instruction, lab work, and clinical applications. After taking the exam and passing it, he also has to subject himself to comprehensive health screening and fingerprinting before his name is added into the state registry.

CNA Classes in Ohio OHSome of the skills taught during the training are vital signs, patient’s body care or grooming, lifting, elimination procedure, and communication skills.

Classes are available in different schedules. Some institutions have CNA programs that are good for only 3 to 5 weeks, so they may be looking for only full-time students. Those who are currently employed can take the weekend or night classes. Owens Community College also has online classes. However, during on-the-job training, you should report to its partner health care facility.

Free CNA Classes in Ohio

The State of Ohio has paved the way for many certified nursing assistants to finish the course through grants and financial assistance.

The Ohio Medical Career Center currently provides free trainings for their existing staff and aspiring CNAs through WIA (Workforce Investment Act), which was enacted in 1998. It gives adults the opportunity to have gainful employment in the heath care field, among others, through proper training.

The center also recognizes the GI Bill, which extends educational support to veterans and other members of the force who are eligible according to the program. If you are a serviceman and you need more information or leads to other similar programs, you can go to the state’s veteran’s administration office.

Teens who are at least 14 years old can also receive financial support for their CNA classes through the WIA youth program. Some public high schools also provide free CNA trainings to the youth so they have the option to take the examination and get a job after graduation.

If you are able to obtain an offer or are hired as a CNA around 12 months after you’ve completed the program and the examination, you can request for reimbursement from the state or from the health care facility itself. Some of the Medicare/Medicaid nursing homes in the area are:

  • Adams Lane Care Center
  • Altenheim
  • Bath Manor Special Care Center
  • Windsor Health Care Center
  • Welcome Nursing Home
  • Veranda Gardens and Assisted Living
